Food Stamp Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility requirements for the food stamp program include:
- Must be a United States citizen or legal alien
- Must meet designated work requirements
- Must meet resource limit(s): $3,000 for households with a member who is disabled or 60 years of age or older, or $2,000 for all other households
- Must meet income standard(s)

Exemptions from work requirements are:
- Persons under the age of 18 or older than 50 years;
- Caretaker of dependent child under the age of 18 or incapacitated person of any age;
- Persons who have applied or are currently receiving unemployment compensation;
- Physically or mentally unfit for unemployment;
- Participants in a drug addict/alcoholic rehabilitation program;
- Employment, training and education program participants under TANF;
- Eligible students enrolled at least half-time in any recognized school, training program or institution of higher education;
- Pregnant; or
- Persons employed a minimum of 30 hours per week or receiving earnings equal to the minimum hourly rate under the Fair Labor and Standards Act, multiplied by 30 hours.
