Dear Supported Living Provider and Case Manager:

The annual authorization for the Supported Living Special Needs Medical Supplement is to be based on the estimated monthly cost for medical services not paid through Medicaid or other funding.  Although there is a wide range in the amounts of daily authorizations, historically many authorizations have been issued for $3.29/day.   In reviewing authorizations and expenditures, it was noted there is a tremendous gap between the amounts authorized and the amounts expended. 

In order to align authorizations more closely with expected needs, we will be issuing individual authorizations for the medical supplement based on the average of the last three years payments.  This will result in an individual daily amount being authorized which is more closely aligned to the expected need. 

If unexpected needs occur during the year, additional authorizations should be requested.  In accordance with the Supported Living policy and contract, the additional Special Needs authorization should be requested prior to service delivery whenever possible.  If this is not feasible, the request must occur with in 60 days of service delivery.   If you have questions, please contact Alice Goard at Alice.Goard@OKDHS.org.
