The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) Children and Family Services Division (CFSD) provides an appeal process to individuals who disagree with confirmed findings of child abuse or neglect.

 

 

Who qualifies for an appeal?

To qualify for an appeal, the individual must be identified as a perpetrator in the investigation under appeal, and the confirmed finding(s) did not result in any court action.

What is the appeals process?

The appeal process is a file review only. Once an appeal has been accepted, the appellant may provide additional written information to the Appeals Committee for review. The Appeals Committee reviews the child welfare investigation, relevant information from the computerized child welfare KIDS system, and additional written information from the appellant.

What happens after an appeal is reviewed?

The Appeals Committee determines whether the confirmed finding(s) under appeal are upheld or reversed. The Appeals Section then updates the KIDS system, and notifies the appellant, appropriate child welfare staff and the office of the District Attorney of the final determination.

Can the decision be appealed?

This decision is final and there is no further recourse to appeal.
