Dr. Paul Amato is a Professor of Sociology, Demography and Family Studies at Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include marital quality, the causes and consequences of divorce and subjective well-being over the life course.
He has published more than 100 journal articles and book chapters, along with four books, including (with Alan Booth) A Generation at Risk: Growing Up in An Era of Family Upheaval, which was published by Harvard University Press in 1997.
He received the Reuben Hill Award from the National Council on Family Relations for the best published article on the family in 1993, 1999 and 2001. He received the Stanley Cohen Distinguished Research Award from the American Association of Family and Conciliation Courts in 2002, the Distinction in the Social Sciences Award from Pennsylvania State University in 2003, and the Distinguished Career Award from the Family Section of the American Sociological Association in 2006.
