Calvin Williams, Director, Fatherhood Services
Public Strategies

This lecture will provide perspectives on father presence and its impacts on child wellbeing, explore reasons why some men are able to maintain presence while others struggle, and think about what family serving systems and policy development might do to better support fathers.  Fatherhood survey results and outcomes of targeted fatherhood engagement strategies in the Family Expectations and Oklahoma Marriage Initiative programs will be highlighted.

About the Speaker:
Calvin Williams fills a critical role on the Public Strategies (PS) team as the thought leader for the development of promising practices in the areas of fatherhood. His expertise in the fatherhood field is now being utilized in the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) curriculum which he co-authored - On My Shoulders, a strengths-based, interactive modular program designed to support fathers.  In his role at PS, Calvin develops programs and interventions targeted to fathers of all types, with a focus on low-income custodial and non-custodial dads and their families. He is a gifted program developer and excels at community fatherhood engagement strategies designed to support men’s efforts to be effective dads.  In addition to the Family Expectations and Oklahoma Marriage Initiative programs, Calvin provides fatherhood-related services to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Oklahoma City Public School District and other community–based family serving entities.

Before joining PSI, Calvin served as the Program Director for the Lighthouse Youth Services REAL Dads Program, which followed his tenure as the Program and Operations Director for Services United for Mothers and Adolescents (SUMA) Fatherhood Project, both in Cincinnati, Ohio. Calvin is a certified trainer in the PREP Relationship Education and Exploring Relationships and Marriage with Fragile Families curricula, has presented at numerous conferences, and has been featured in various publications.
