Cindy McGowan is a Programs Field Representative with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Training Section. Since her promotion to this position in 2000, she has conducted over 5,000 hours of training on the topics of Domestic Violence Awareness, Substance Abuse, Addiction and Recovery, Self-Care for Service Providers, Interviewing Skills, and Training Skills for Trainers as well as program and policy trainings for OKDHS.
Ms. McGowan is a co-developer of the “Safe Town – Domestic Violence Awareness Training” which has gained national attention from Human Services training organizations for its creative and interactive activities. She is co-author of the “Domestic Violence Awareness Guide” which received an Oklahoma Governor’s Commendation and was named a Notable Document by the American Library Association and is currently in the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
Ms. McGowan has created and presented workshop sessions for 3 national training conferences thru APHSA/NSDTA (American Public Human Services Association/National Staff Development Association.) She has also presented conference workshops for the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (OCADVSA), Oklahoma Partners Conference, OKDHS Supervisors, and trainings for other community partners across Oklahoma. She is currently co-chair of the OKDHS Domestic Violence Task force.
Ms. McGowan holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and has taught in the Oklahoma public school system.
