The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Distribution Program (FDP) is designed to improve the diets of people in the program and support agriculture by distributing surplus food to the needy while supporting farmers. State agencies who are responsible for distributing this food (SDA) diliver food to eligible organizations.  They include schools, child and adult day care centers, residential child care institutions and charitable institutions.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) Commodity Distribution Unit (CDU) serves as the state distributing agency for USDA commodity foods. CDU receives and stores USDA commodity foods and then distributes the foods to recipient agencies (RAs).

This handbook is designed to present the program in an easy to understand format. Each section deals with a specific area of the program.
