340:75-12-4. Preparation for adult life

     The group homes are designed to promote self reliance and the development of daily living skills of residents.  • 1    Each resident participates in the preparation for adult life activities provided by the group home staff.  Preparation for adult life activities are designed to:

  • (1) improve self concept;
  • (2) increase the resident's decision making skills and sense of personal control;
  • (3) expose residents to educational and vocational options;
  • (4) develop skills in personal financial management, accessing educational opportunities, use of community leisure resources, and obtaining and maintaining  employment;
  • (5) provide information concerning human sexuality and parent effectiveness;
  • (6) provide each resident a birth certificate, school and medical records, and other documents necessary for independent adult living; and
  • (7) provide a Life Book to residents who enter the group home without one.    • 2  

INSTRUCTIONS TO STAFF 340:75-12-4

1.  The group home Child Welfare specialist (CWS) documents each resident's participation in preparation for adult living activities in the resident's group home case file.

2.  The group home CWS assists each resident prepare a Life Book.
