Everyone counts when it comes to the census. Census Day is April 1. We encourage you to not only participate and be counted, but to spread the word to all of our clients to participate in the 2010 Census. This year’s form will be the shortest in history with just 10 questions.
Here are some safety tips from the Better Business Bureau and the Oklahoma State Department of Commerce.
- Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address information.
- Starting April 1, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail or in person at home. The Census Bureau does not conduct the 2010 Census via e-mail or the Internet.
- The Census Bureau does not request credit card numbers, bank account numbers, PIN numbers or passwords.
- If a US Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice. To confirm if a person really works for the US Census Bureau call 1-866-226-2864.
- The Census Bureau is not working with ACORN.
Do you know someone who is looking for a job? The U.S Census is hiring and will provide paid training to all new hires. Applicants must be available to work between 20-40 hours per week. Positions pay between $10.75 and $17.25 an hour depending on position and location. For information, contact the Oklahoma City Local Census Office at (405) 254-9140 or the Tulsa Local Census Office at (918) 877-3440.
