During the recent Area III foster grandparent celebration, honorees spoke about the importance of volunteering and the rewards they receive as foster grandparents.

By being a consistent and positive influence in a child’s life, volunteers have a lasting effect on the future, they told the group assembled in Pauls Valley for the Area III ceremony. They have an opportunity to watch a child make strides in their education and become more confident. Several volunteers said they receive rewards because the children they mentor are appreciative and enthusiastic.

Award recipients not only received certificates of appreciation, but also received legislative commendations from their area legislator. Karen Jacobs, OKDHS volunteerism coordinator, made remarks on behalf of the agency and its leadership, thanking the volunteers for the hours they’ve donated and for inspiring the next generation of leaders.

State Sen. Susan Paddock and State Rep. Leslie Osborn also attended and thanked the honorees for their work to support Oklahoma children.

The theme of the statewide volunteer recognition ceremonies is “Volunteers Create Magic.” A magician was one of the event’s special guests and provided entertainment for the crowd.
