By Robin Jones, Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives
September is National Preparedness Month and The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives will host a “Be Ready” campaign for disaster and emergency preparedness. The campaign will stress the importance of being prepared in the event of severe weather, a hazardous material incident, terrorist attack or other emergency situation.
Families are encouraged to assemble a three-day emergency preparedness kit and have a plan for communication. Faith congregations and communities should have a plan, identify both at-risk individuals and local resources, and utilize their facilities for disaster response trainings or shelters.
September 26-27 has been designated as Be Ready Sunday/Weekend. Be Ready information cards are available for distribution through your congregation, business or other community organizations.
