Dana E. Jackson, school based service worker, Atoka County, was recognized at an Aug. 12 reception as the Area IV Employee of the Year for FY 2009. Wilson Seawright, Family Support Services field liaison, and Area Director Bill Wilson marked the event by presenting Jackson with a certificate and plaque, as well as a gift card and basket.
The Employee of the Year is selected from among the four quarterly winners, and Jackson qualified by being selected as the second quarter winner by the Area IV Team for Quality.
Jackson was nominated by one of her peers in Atoka County who observed her going above and beyond to help a 14-year-old student at one of her schools whose grandmother/guardian died. The child’s step-grandfather works away from home but was all the family he had left.
The child’s orthodontist treatments had not been kept up since his grandmother’s death so Dana Jackson volunteered to coordinate appointments with the school and orthodontist including transportation, donated services, Soonercare, basketball shoes, Christmas gifts, and well, you get the idea.
Dana Jackson has gone above and beyond her normal duties to help this child thrive. The child does well in school, has great attendance and is unfailingly polite and mannerly. Due to her efforts, the life of this child has improved dramatically.
One final note – a fellow worker commented about Dana Jackson’s humility and simply stated this is just one of the many things she has done for young people.
