OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- Oklahoma has an urgent need for more foster families throughout the state, and an upcoming conference is designed to help recruit foster families from local congregations.  The “8308 Campaign” will be Thursday, April 26 at Journey Church, 1330 E. Lindsey St. in Norman, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

The “8308” campaign is named for the number of Oklahoma children in state custody on Jan. 1, 2012.  The Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives is partnering with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS), 111 Project, SALLT, and Sandridge Energy to reach a common goal of making a difference in the lives of Oklahoma children.

The conference will provide information, tools, and opportunities to engage the foster care issue as it relates to children and foster families, as well as how to establish a local foster care/adoption ministry.
