Wilson to Discuss Impacts of Childhood Trauma

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- Charles Wilson, MSSW, will close the spring Practice and Policy Lecture Series by opening a dialog on how traumatic stress on children impact childhood at noon, May 21 at the Oklahoma History Center, 2401 N. Laird Ave., Oklahoma City.

Wilson will address the impact of childhood traumatic stress on children served by the child serving system. He will also discuss ways to help mitigate the impact of trauma and new traumatic experiences.

Wilson is the executive director of the Chadwick Center for Children and Families and the Sam and Rose Stein Endowed Chair in Child Protection at Children’s Hospital in San Diego, Calif. where he oversees a large multi-service child and family maltreatment organization providing prevention, intervention, medical assessment and trauma treatment services along with professional education and research.

All lectures are sponsored by Oklahoma Department of Human Services Office of Planning, Research and Statistics and University of Oklahoma Center for Public Management. In addition, this lecture is sponsored by Oklahoma Therapeutic Foster Care Association and OKDHS Children and Family Services Division. This yearlong series provides thought-provoking presentations by experts in their fields on Oklahoma’s emerging policy issues, trends and best practices. The lectures are free and open to the public.
