Oversight of Residential Child Care to Transfer to OCCY
OKDHS Child Care Officials Preparing Case Files

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services child care division are preparing to transfer oversight of residential child care facilities to the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth.

“As mandated by HB 1734, we are fully prepared to transfer oversight of all residential child care facilities to the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth,” said Janice McGlon-Matthews, interim director of Oklahoma Child Care Services. “We will be in full compliance with the law by July 1.”

HB 1734, also known as the Children’s Systems Review Act, was signed by Gov. Brad Henry on May 28, 2009. Most sections of the bill are effective July 1, 2009. It mandates that oversight of residential child care facilities, known as shelters, transfer from OKDHS to OCCY.
