Gov. Henry Proclaims November Adoption Awareness Month

Majority of Children Awaiting Adoption are Siblings

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- In fiscal year 2007, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Swift Adoption Program authorized a record 1,579 children to be placed in adoptive homes. Also encouraging was the fact that 61 percent of these children are siblings. But even with this great success, hundreds of children still wait to be adopted with their brothers and sisters.

To help raise awareness about the need for adoptive homes for sibling groups, OKDHS would like to introduce Oklahomans to 2 handsome young men who are hoping to be placed in a loving, caring, adoptive home together.

Meet Derrick, a sociable, intelligent 12-year-old. Derrick is kind and loyal and has strong friendships. He enjoys outdoor activities like skateboarding, swimming, riding his bike or jumping on a trampoline.

Meet Corey, an adorable blonde-haired, blue-eyed 9-year-old. Corey is a cheerful, loving child who enjoys riding his bike and playing with his toys. Corey is an intelligent young man who is respectful of others. His sensitive and affectionate nature make him well-liked by everyone.

These young men are physically healthy and would benefit from a structured; nurturing home and a caring family willing to accept the love and affection they have to offer.

If you or someone you know would like more information about adoption, please call 1-877-OK-SWIFT (1-877-657-9438), request adoption information online, or got to www.adoptuskids.org.
