I Was Hungry and You Fed Me Conference Addresses Oklahoma Hunger Issues

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- Hunger is an everyday reality in Oklahoma. The I Was Hungry and You Fed Me conference will address the various ways faith-based and community organizations can address hunger and serve the Oklahoma populations that are food insecure or experience hunger on a daily basis.

“The conference is designed to provide food for thought for faith-based and community organizations that want to intentionally influence their communities by reducing the incidence of hunger,” said Robin Jones, director, Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.

Hosted by the OFBCI, United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service and the Oklahoma departments of Human Services, Education and Health, the all-day conference will be held Nov. 7 at the Community Food Bank Of Eastern Oklahoma, 1304 N. Kenosha Ave., Tulsa, Okla. The conference will also be held Nov. 8 at Castle Falls Special Events Center, 820 N. MacArthur Blvd., Okla. City.

Workshop topics will include: Summer Food Service Program; Child and Adult Care Food Program; Commodities; Women, Infants and Children Program; Food Stamp Program and Angel Food Ministries.

Nancy Montanez Johner, USDA Under Secretary for Food Nutrition and Consumer Services, will deliver the keynote address during the lunch hour.

The event is a continuation of the FaithLinks Intentional Influence Series and is free. Register by Oct. 29 at www.faithlinksok.org/featuredevents.htm. For more information contact info@faithlinksok.org  or call  (405) 522-0621.
