OKDHS and GOALS Help Students Prepare to Go Back to School

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --
As summer vacation winds down, The Oklahoma Department of Human Services and Greater Oklahomans Achieving Lifelong Success are teaming up to host a back-to-school community initiative to help Oklahoma City Public Schools students prepare to return to class.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 13, at Douglass High School, 900 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., students can receive free immunization shots, sports physicals, hearing and vision screenings, fingerprinting, haircuts and trims, personal care items, backpacks, undergarments, books and other supplies. Operation Life Saver, Stranger Danger and I Can Achieve will hold informative presentations. Free food and refreshments also will be on hand.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parents should bring each child’s immunization records and contact their local school to identify the correct sports physical form required by the school before attending the event.

GOALS is a group of non-profit and for-profit organizations working together to help Oklahoma City Public Schools students prepare to return to school and feel good about themselves. GOALS works to ensure each child is healthy, has good hearing and vision, is aware and alert of their surroundings, and to encourage each child to strive to achieve lifelong success.

For more information, contact Dianna Johnson at OKDHS Oklahoma County 55C Human Services Center at (405) 522-1777.
