OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- The Oklahoma City metro faith community will join together in late April to kickoff ShareFest OKC to bring awareness to the numerous ways the faith community provides hope and help to those in need.

“Congregations touch their local communities in so many ways on a daily basis,” said Brad Yarbrough, director of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, one of the participating sponsors of ShareFest OKC. “This event is a way for the faith community to reach out in unison and demonstrate compassion through acts of service.”

During the April 29 workday Oklahoma City metro churches will participate in a one-day blitz of community service. Congregations are encouraged to pick a service project that will be of significance to the community—one that blesses families, neighborhoods or schools. A project proposal form and workday guide are available on the ShareFest Web site at http://www.sharefestokc.org/.

The May 7 worship celebration, held from 6:30-8 p.m. on May 7 at City Church, 136 N.W. 10th St. in Oklahoma City, allows congregations to join together in a community-wide service. The program includes: Rev. George E. Young, Sr., pastor of Holy Temple Baptist Church, the Praise and Worship Team from Church on the Rock led by Jason Smith, other local community leaders and a video of ShareFest Workday projects.
