Oklahoma Association of Senior Centers Seeks Members

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- The Oklahoma Association of Senior Centers (OASC) seeks members from Oklahoma senior citizens centers and community focal points across the state.

The goal of the organization is to promote the mission of senior centers and other focal points in communities where older adults gather, according to Rick Teal, Grove, OASC president. OASC provides informational and educational programs about subjects of interest to Oklahoma’s aging population.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services Aging Services Division formed OASC to represent the interests of Oklahoma’s increasing older population. The National Council on Aging and the National Institute of Senior Center provided start-up funds.

“We encourage all groups across the state to become members to broaden the base of influence for its older citizens,” Teal said. “The vast knowledge, energy and expertise of the state’s older population are the greatest untapped resources in Oklahoma. Membership in OASC should also give older adults a greater voice in state issues affecting them.”

OASC Board of Directors include: Teal, president; Carol Hume, Oklahoma City, vice president; John Terneus, Yukon, secretary; Bob Warner, Tecumseh, treasure. Directors at Large include: Velda Wood, Watonga; Roxie Caraway, Oklahoma City; and Kathryn Cook, Stroud.

For more information, contact the membership committee: OASC Membership Committee, PO Box 848, Miami, OK 74355, 918-542-6671, oklahomaseniorcenters@yahoo.com.
