Beggs Resident Receives Governor's Commendation

BEGGS -- Jared Blackley of Beggs received a commendation from Gov. Brad Henry on Nov. 8 at the 20th Annual Governor’s Disability Employment Awards ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City.

Blackley was recognized in the employee category for his outstanding achievements in employment. The awards program stated this about Blackley:

“Jared Blackley is a courtesy clerk at Albertson’s where he has worked for more than a year. Prior to getting this job, Jared took some good advice from his employment specialist at the Central Technology Supported Employment program. Jared invested his time and his own money into getting his food handler’s card. Having this certification was one of the reasons he was hired. Since being employed, Jared has learned to take more responsibility for himself in all areas of his life. He has become a very accountable and reliable employee. As a courtesy clerk, he is exposed to a variety of customers and co-workers. This job has helped Jared gain confidence in his communication skills, which in turn has enabled him to become much more socially active in his community.”

The Governor’s Disability Employment Awards are held each year to honor outstanding persons with disabilities who are working successfully in their communities. The awards also recognize businesses that hire persons with disabilities and help them to succeed.”

The awards are co-sponsored by state organizations that support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. They are the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division; the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Oklahoma Association of Persons in Supported Employment and the Office of Handicapped Concerns.
