Free Informational Talk on Postherpetic Neuralgia

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services Aging Services Division and Oklahoma County Senior Nutrition Center are hosting a free information talk about postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), at 10 a.m., Oct. 6 at the Oklahoma County Senior Nutrition Center at the YWCA, located at 1701 N. PHN is an extremely painful and debilitating disease caused by the shingles virus. According to the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, the shingles virus is most common in people older than age 50. And according to the Merck Manual of Medical Information, Postherpetic neuralgia occurs most often in older people: 25 to 50 percent of people older than 50 years who have shingles also have some postherpetic neuralgia.

For information on this free talk, contact Connie Eggleston at the OKDHS Aging Services Division, (405) 522-3121.
