Caregiver Survival Skills Seminar Set for June 25

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- Frederick Luskin, Ph.D., director of the Stanford Forgiveness Projects at Stanford University, will speak to Oklahoma caregivers on “The Power of Forgiveness to Heal Stress and Anger” during the sixth annual Caregivers Survival Skills seminar June 25 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services Aging Services Division, Mercy’s at Home and Hospice programs and the Areawide Aging Agency Inc. of Oklahoma City are jointly sponsoring the daylong event.

Luskin has written extensively on the impact of stress. Two of his most current publications are “Forgive for Good” and “Stress Free for Good.” His focus on the importance of interpersonal forgiveness has been integrated into lifestyle modification research programs and is used in medical settings throughout the nation.

Other speakers will include Rachel Boggess, INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center, speaking on the numerous ways of serving a loved one as a caregiver and how to cope with the many stresses, and a panel presentation on “Caregiver Resources and Enrichment” led by staff from the Sunbeam Family Services Caregiver Fundamentals program. Presenters will include Carrie Barnes, caregiver program coordinator, Judy Hensley, senior services director, and John L. Jacob, Senior Companion program supervisor.
