OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --- “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren” is the theme of the 24th annual Senior Citizens’ Day at the Capitol to be held April 7, where Governor Brad Henry will welcome visiting seniors to the Capitol.

Registration packets will contain resource materials for grandparents, including “Starting Points for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren,” published by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Aging Services Division and the Oklahoma Legislative Process by attorney Sandy Ingraham of Ingraham and Associates, P.L.L.C.

Discussions on legal and other issues affecting grandparents raising grandchildren will be led by panelists, which will include: Ingraham and Anne Roberts, executive director of the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy.

Information packets will be distributed beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the southeast corner of the first floor of the Oklahoma Capitol Building. All packets will contain a packet of wildflower seeds printed with numbers and a website grandparents can use for help and the phrase, “Oklahoma helps farmers raise crops; shouldn’t it do more to help grandparents raise grandchildren?”

All presentations will be in the Oklahoma House of Representative Chamber beginning at 9 a.m. Senior Day is sponsored by the Oklahoma Alliance on Aging and the Oklahoma State Council on Aging.
