A SNAP overpayment occurs when a household receives more food benefits than it is entitled to receive or when benefits are being trafficked.
Trafficking means to deal or trade something illegal. This is usually the sale or trade of SNAP benefits for cash or other ineligible items.
Who is responsible for repaying an established overpayment claim?
- Every adult receiving food benefits on the case when the overpayment or benefit trafficking occurred
- A person connected to the household (an authorized representative or other individual) when the person trafficked benefits or caused the overpayment
