Specific Title III Nutrition Program Information for Oklahoma

In state fiscal year (SFY) 2008 slightly more than 3.9 million meals were prepared and served to about 25,000 people, with about 47 percent served to frail older persons in their homes.

  • Oklahoma has 234 nutrition sites, down from 250 managed by 22 nutrition projects.
  • There is at least one nutrition site in every county.
  • They traditionally offer a noon meal and are required to provide 1/3 of the RDA to help maintain health and fight hunger.
  • Home delivered meals are offered as well for those who are homebound.
  • Meals paid for through the state’s Medicaid ADvantage HCBS program are prepared and delivered through the nutrition sites.
  • Intake and Assessment is available at each site – this provides access to Title III services and any other community service.  
  • Volunteer opportunities are available.
  • Activities are available at some sites and the socialization benefit is a critical part of the program.
  • Health promotion programs (exercise and chronic disease management classes) are offered in about 100 of the nutrition sites.
  • Health screening and monitoring of blood pressure, blood sugar, and medication management are offered at most sites.
  • Emergency response help and shelf stable meals are available through the nutrition center.
  • AAA’s offer additional services such as transportation, legal services and respite vouchers.
