Office of Inspector General: Investigations

Special Projects

In an effort to bar the illegal buying and selling of Food Stamps, the Oklahoma Legislature amended state law in 1993.

A special section of the Office of Inspector General Fraud Unit II, the Food Stamp Trafficking section, enforces the prohibition of trafficking in food stamps. Agents in this section conduct undercover operations targeting authorized and unauthorized vendors trading cash for Food Stamp benefits.

In 1997, Oklahoma transitioned to the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) process for distribution of benefits such as Food Stamps. This means that OKDHS distributes benefits using a debit card rather than a paper check.

The section, working closely with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, investigates EBT-related allegations of fraud or abuse.
