The School Based Service Worker Program is a unique partnership between OKDHS and a school system to provide preventive services to students and their families.
The school and OKDHS share the cost of an employee – a School Based Service Worker.
Community organizations or Indian Tribes have also been a part of this partnership and shared in the cost of the worker.
The School Based Service Worker remains an OKDHS employee, but is physically located at the school.
The worker provides intervention and support services for children in the school system and their families who are at risk or in crisis.
Their mission is to assist children and their families make the school environment a safe, healthy and productive experience by providing a wide range of services to the students and their families.
There are currently approximately 100 school-based workers across the state serving 80 school systems.
