SNAP Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, include:

  • Must be a United States citizen or legal alien;
  • Must meet designated work requirements; suspended 04/01/2009 to 10/01/10
  • Must meet resource limit(s) ONLY when household includes member disqualified for Intentional Program Violation or Fraud: $3,000 for households with a member who is disabled or 60 years of age or older, or $2,000 for all other households; or 
  • Must meet income standard(s). Households who do not have a person who is disabled or age 60 or older must first meet the gross income test. Persons who are disabled or age 60 or older must meet the net income standard
