OKLAHOMA CITY -- There are 8,308 children in foster care with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS). More foster families are needed all across the state and the OKDHS foster care unit in Grady County is recognizing May as Foster Care Month.

In Grady County, 88 children are in OKDHS foster care. Foster families are called Bridge Resource Families and they help children and youth transition to new lives in safe, loving homes. The need for additional Bridge Families continues to grow, especially for teenagers, sibling groups and children with special medical or physical needs. Information about how to become a foster parent can be found on the OKDHS website.

All children deserve a home where they can feel secure. Families across Oklahoma have opened up their homes to children and youth in need, providing them with a safe environment and a foundation that will enable them to achieve a bright future. These families, along with OKDHS child welfare workers, Native American tribes and the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives work tirelessly to provide welcoming homes for these children and youth.
